Eternal Life

How to get to Heaven

The first thing that you must understand is that every human is a sinner.  “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).  Present from birth, your sin nature will be with you all of your life.  Although you may not be a murderer or a thief, you still have broken God’s laws.  Everyone has lied or even been unkind to someone at sometime.  This is sin.

God can not accept sinners into His sinless Heaven.  There is nothing we can do to cleanse ourselves from our sins.  Our good works do not impress the Lord.  They can not cover the ugly blot of sin in our lives.  The Bible says “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us”.  (Titus 3:5)
How, then, can we as sinners have a hope of eternal life in Heaven?  Jesus Chris humbled himself and was born as a man.  Although Jesus was sinless, He died on Calvary to pay for the sins of all mankind.  “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”, (Romans 5:8).

The Bible says, “For God so loved the World,  that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16).  You must confess your sins, believing that Jesus, and only Jesus, can save you from them and the eternal consequences that they bring.  By accepting Jesus into your heart and life, you acknowledge your insufficiency to save yourself by good works or by ordinances.  By confessing your sins and accepting Jesus’ atonement for them you become a Child of God.

Once you have accepted Christ by faith as your Saviour, you are a new person spiritually.  The Holy Spirit dwells within you, leading and guiding you and giving you assurance of your salvation.  “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (I John 4:5)  “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.   ( I John 5:13)
